As each year, for the Lenaia, the tradition is now to introduce an excerpt from modern or classical drama for each day during the four days festival. The Lenaia Festival is held during the month of Lenaion (or Gamelion according to cities and traditions) in honour of Dionysus, the god of drama. Plays and theatre works are introduced and literary contests happen everyday. The name of the Lenaia (Attic-Ionic Λήναια) comes from the god’s epiclesis Ληναῖος (Lenaios) with ληνός (lenos) as root, ‘the winepress’, since among the god’s attributes we can also find the wine.
The following list redirects to each of the excerpts for each of the four days of the Lenaia Festival. The links will be updated everyday, so do not forget to come back and check.
